Please see the below call shared with us by Dr Tarminder Kaur.
Deadline for abstracts to the thematic issue on African sport from African Studies Quarterly has been extended to May 17, 2023.
Anyone who lives in or studies contemporary Africa recognizes how sport runs through so many aspects of daily and associational life. Yet in nearly every circumstance—past and present— there are individuals or groups that struggle for sporting access, support, and recognition. In March, the Sports Africa conference joined with the Carter Conference at the University of Florida where scholars from all over the world joined together to present research and discuss African sport topics. After the success of the joint initiative between the Sports Africa Network and Carter Conference, the organizers are putting together a thematic special issue through African Studies Quarterly, with guest editors Kelsey Slater and Tarminder Kaur. While all topics on sport and Africa are welcome, the special issue specifically seeks papers that illuminate and interrogate multiple dimensions of these struggles, particularly those of minorities, women, and youth.
If you want to be considered for this issue, please send an expanded abstract (400-500 words) to Kelsey (kelsey.slater@ndsu.edu) and Tarminder (tarminderkaurw15@gmail.com) by 17 May. Selected authors will be notified by 22 May with full papers due by 15 August. In addition, please contact the guest editors with any questions related to the special issue.
